| Fairfax County Public Schools said it extended offers of admission to the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology to more Black and Hispanic students than in any class admitted in the past four years. The incoming class will include fewer Asian students, who have historically made up the vast majority of admitted students, and a larger percentage of female students. The school system approved a new admissions system last year that asked school staffers to consider applicants' socioeconomic and racial backgrounds and did away with a $100 application fee and a long-standing admissions test. |
