Gavin Grimm won a huge battle for trans student rights. He said it's a "nightmare" that a child had to fight it.
In 2014, Gavin Grimm spoke at a school board meeting. He told the audience that being forced to use bathrooms at school besides the one that matched his gender was "alienating" and "humiliating." He was just 15 when he said, "I'm just a human. I am just a boy."
Seven years later, Grimm won the battle. This week, the Supreme Court rejected a petition from the school board to hear the case after Grimm prevailed in the lower courts. The top court's order leaves in place a federal appeals court decision last summer finding the school board violated his constitutional rights.
The Supreme Court's decision not to hear the case means there won't be any nationwide resolution from the court for now about how schools must treat transgender students.

Authorities said a white supremacist fatally shot two people near Boston because they were Black
On Saturday, a man gunned down two people outside Boston after crashing a stolen truck. Now, Massachusetts authorities said the man was a white supremacist who targeted his victims because they were Black.
Ramona Cooper, 60, a staff sergeant in the Air Force, and 68-year-old David Green, a retired state trooper, were shot multiple times Saturday afternoon by Nathan Allen, 28. Authorities said Allen walked by several people who were not Black and left them unharmed.
Prosecutors revealed that investigators found "troubling white supremacist rhetoric" in messages written by the killer, and are investigating the case as a hate crime. SNAPSHOTS
Serena Williams said "there's a lot of reasons" she won't play in the Tokyo Olympics. The 39-year-old, who has already won four Olympic gold medals, made the announcement in response to a question during a pre-Wimbledon press conference.
Demi Lovato opened up about the reality of coming out as nonbinary. Lovato shared that not everybody has been positive about their journey. They added that they're "grateful" for the progress their friends and family have made in using their pronouns.
The Wimbledon crowd gave a standing ovation for a woman who helped develop a COVID vaccine. The camera zoomed in on Dame Sarah Gilbert, a professor of vaccinology at the University of Oxford who led the team that developed the AstraZeneca vaccine. When the Wimbledon crowd realized who was in attendance, they burst into wild applause that soon became a standing ovation. A few weeks ago, we asked flight attendants to share with us the worst and wildest things they've had to endure. Needless to say, they did not disappoint — from the frisky to the rude to the downright disgusting, we've collected all these stories in one place.
My favorite is the very last one, about a woman traveling with a mouse. The flight attendant told us, "as I approached her...she had the mouse in her hand and stuffed him back into her jacket pocket. I confronted her about it, and she just straight-up told me, 'I am moving, and I had to do what I had to do to get my mouse here.'"
