Simone Biles exited the women's gymnastics team final
In an official statement, the USA Gymnastics confirmed that Biles, America's most decorated gymnast, had to exit from the team final competition "due to a medical issue." The 24-year-old appeared shaky on vault Tuesday where she performed 1.5 twists landing with a big correction. Her performance earned her a score of 13.766, the lowest score in the first rotation. The athletes from the Russian Olympic Committee subsequently took gold, while the US won silver and the UK won bronze.

Over 100 veterans say a doctor butchered their feet. He's still working, and says he was a scapegoat.
In total, Bradley Hammersley is tied to 147 cases of substandard care. One vet said Hammersley put wrong-size screws into his foot, causing so much pain he retired early. Another said Hammersley performed surgery on his toe when the real problem was with his Achilles tendon.
Several agencies were slow to intervene when concerns were raised: The VA overlooked warning signs and acted too late, the Indiana attorney general's office ran an investigation that went nowhere, Indiana's podiatry board was left in the dark.
Meanwhile, the VA gave the veterans instructions on how to file a tort claim for compensation, but then rejected those claims en masse, saying they were too late. The VA's own delays in finding and disclosing the problem meant the statute of limitations had passed.
As for Hammersley, he says he's being made a scapegoat for the VA's institutional failures and denies the malpractice he's accused of. He says that the reason he no longer performs surgeries is because of insurance costs. SNAPSHOTS
California and NYC public employees, as well as VA health workers, have new vaccine mandates. The decisions to require vaccines or proof of a negative test come as COVID-19 cases spike again across the nation.
All 98 victims in the Miami building disaster have now been identified. The news came over a month after part of the 12-story beachfront condo crashed down, leaving the community of Surfside reeling.

Britney Spears has officially asked for her dad to be removed from her conservatorship
In a petition filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Spears' new attorney Mathew Rosengart questioned whether her father, Jamie Spears, was "guilty of misfeasance or malfeasance warranting the imposition of surcharges, damages, or other legal action against him" as he argued that the removal was in the 39-year-old pop star's best interest.
The petition comes shortly after the court allowed the singer to hire her own counsel to represent her in the court-mandated arrangement that gave her father and others control of her life in 2008.

How phone sex relieved my anxiety
Well, not my anxiety: This essay from burlesque performer Fancy Feast kicks off our sex week with a story about how phone sex brought back her inner good-time girl. It starts off with an anecdote about trying to suss out how, uh, big a guy is over the phone and ends with an earnest meditation on what it means to return to this new world, one reshaped by the pandemic. But maybe save reading it for when you're not at work, 'k? Wishing you the power to say no, 📝 This letter was edited and brought to you by Brandon Hardin and BuzzFeed News.
