Norris's latest column asks that question. Bridges, of course, was the 6-year-old who in 1960 famously braved angry White mobs to help integrate the New Orleans schools. Butler was a U.S. Marshal who protected her — and who, Norris tells us, later in life asked that his ashes be spread at Bridges's school after he died. He called what he did there the most important work of his life. Now the Moms for Liberty, along with likeminded activists across the country, are trying to erase painful racial truths from the histories we pass down to the children of our era. "Students need to learn the full story — the haters and the helpers," Norris says. Just as one day, too, they'll need to learn about today's would-be erasers.
