Sign up for this newsletter Read online Your morning dose of Post commentary and guest opinions.       By Ramishah Maruf Op-ed intern  Email In a few days, the International Olympics Committee (IOC) will force Japan to host the Olympics, even though the majority of its population opposes it and the prime minister declared a state of emergency.  This year's Olympics — billions of dollars over budget and without spectators — is a "flat-out fraud," writes David Von Drehle, and the IOC is reaping the benefits without consequence as long as the Olympic athletes perform for the world. "The hosts spend billions; the athletes devote years; the fat cats pocket the dough," Von Drehle said. It's up to the world's athletes to redeem the Games. They can protest the IOC and refuse to have their talents exploited by them any longer.  "Now is the time for the world's athletes to rise up — as America's college athletes have done — to demand an Olympic movement that puts them first: their interests, their dignity, their safety, their values," Von Drehle said. "Without them, the Olympics is worse than nothing at all."
