| Haiti's civil protection office reported at least 1,297 deaths from the earthquake as of Sunday evening. More than 5,700 people have been injured, and more than 27,000 homes were damaged or destroyed. The 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck the country Saturday was stronger, though centered farther from the capital, than the devastating 2010 earthquake that killed more than 220,000 people. |
